Thanks Carys! I’m planning to share a little mini-series here soon about how I’ve been building those supportive systems, the mindset behind them, what’s been working for me and some practical steps you can try too. Then early next year, I’ll be running some deeper workshops and courses inside my membership where I’ll show how to set it all up for your own creative business (especially if you’re balancing health or energy limitations like I am).
So keep an eye out, the first post in the series will be the end of next week/beginning of November (all depending on how I get through the half term hols haha!) 😅
Ooh I was in a right funk of not creating art for me, I just needed to do something about it. It’s tricky having to wear all the biz hats as a freelancer and have limited time sprints thanks to chronic fatigue, dodgy joints, etc. Hope you’re having a lovely, creative weekend!
This is so on-point! It feels like such a battle. I'm not sure if it's the creative inside of us that puts their heart into everything they do, but it can be so tough splitting your energy between all this. I try to dedicate days (where possible) to emails, socials and marketing, and most times this is the day I just go *ooh maybe I'll create a new image for a post* or get inspired to write on Substack.
But I really agree with you on simplifying and having that passion project to keep you motivated, because it can all get too much sometimes, doesn't it?
I'm constantly trying to remind myself that I'm just one person, trying to be as organised as I humanly can, but we need to show ourselves some grace - we're creatives, and creativity doesn't come with an on/off switch, unfortunately! (and neither does motivation) But we do have the gift to make things fun - so maybe that's the approach that needs to be taken with dreaded socials haha!
Really looking forward to reading how you've been managing it all!
Thanks Francesca! Yes, totally agree with you. I often forget to cut myself some slack, especially whilst trying to set all this up by myself this last few weeks. Fancy pants corporations have whole departments dedicated to each aspect of running a business, so little old me is not going to have a full annual marketing masterplan scheduled & completed in a week. 😅 Hope you find the next few articles useful, thanks for reading! 💕
Simplifying and automating! Such a good way to think about it - I was talking with a friend this morning about this as relating to dog-training - shortish term pain for EXTREME longterm gain - why is it so hard to do?? x
Oh the short term pain! 😩 Took me three days to figure out creating sub-domains this week. What a time zap! I can now do it in minutes though 😅 I keep having to remind myself it’s a learning curve, push the boulder up that hill now & once everything is set up it will just need maintenance. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏼🤪
I love this Annie! Would love to hear more about how you’ve structured this if you felt like sharing in another post

How exciting!! Sounds fantastic, and I’m glad it’s helping you find more time to create

Thanks Gunja!
